“ Etymology of the Word BOAT ”

The term "boat" comes from the Anglo-Norman "bat" plus an added Germanic diminutive "ӗllus" ("water").

From the standpoint of the definition, a boat means a floating structure, of variable size, capable of navigating the rivers and canals or the sea by the means of human-powered (boat, canoe ...), wind (sails ... ) or by motorised propulsion. Legally, the distinction is made between the word "boat" and the word "ship": a boat is a construction for inland waterways, while a ship is intended for maritime navigation.
